Carmen Spezzi

Owner / Manager & Licensed Director
Carmen Francis Spezzi Sr. embarked on his journey as a licensed funeral director in 1973. Alongside his wife, Christine, he has been the proud owner and operator of Carmen F. Spezzi Funeral Home since 1978 and Maliszewski Funeral Homes since 1983. A distinguished graduate of the American Academy McAllister Institute in New York, Carmen brings a wealth of expertise to the field.

Married to Christine O'Brien, the couple shares a beautiful family that includes three children: Meaghan, Carmen Jr., and Moira. Their family has grown to include five grandchildren - Quinlan, Michael, Nola Kulakis, Aurora Marini and Grace Spezzi.

Notably, the family business boasts a legacy, with Meaghan, Carmen Jr., and Moira all following in their father & mother's footsteps as licensed funeral directors, actively contributing to the compassionate services provided by the funeral homes.

Carmen Sr. remains an active member of the National and NJ State Funeral Directors Associations, exemplifying his commitment to professional excellence. Beyond his funeral service involvement, Carmen is a 4th degree knight in the Knights of Columbus Council 2061 in Sayreville. He is also affiliated with the South Amboy Elks and holds a place of honor in the Sayreville War Memorial High School Hall of Fame, underlining his significant contributions to both his local community and the funeral service profession.

Meaghan Spezzi

She is a distinguished graduate of Providence College and holds a degree in mortuary science from Mercer County Community College.

In addition to her professional accomplishments, Meaghan finds fulfillment in her family life. Married to Paul C. Kulakis, the couple shares the joy of raising three children together. Through her multifaceted roles, Meaghan continues to contribute to the legacy of compassionate care within the funeral service profession, embodying the values upheld by her family and the organizations she proudly represents.

Carmen Spezzi, Jr.

Carmen Jr., a licensed funeral director, stands as a dedicated professional in the field and holds memberships in both the National and NJ State Funeral Directors Associations. His academic journey led him to graduate from Mercer County Community College, showcasing his commitment to excellence in funeral service.

Beyond his role in the funeral profession, Carmen Jr. is a multifaceted individual. As a Black Belt and instructor of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, he embodies discipline and expertise outside the realm of funeral service. Actively engaged in community service, Carmen Jr. is a proud member of the Sayreville Lions Club and the Knights of Columbus Council 2061.

In his personal life, Carmen Jr. shares his journey with his wife, Camille Spezzi, forming a loving family with their cherished daughter. Carmen Jr.'s diverse interests and commitment to both his professional and community roles highlight his well-rounded contributions to both the funeral service industry and the local community.

Moira Spezzi

Licensed Director
Moira, a licensed funeral director, brings a unique blend of skills and passions to her role within the family business. Her commitment to both funeral service and community involvement is evident through her position on the board of the Sayreville Historical Society.

Moira's educational journey reflects her diverse interests, having initially graduated from LIM College with a bachelor's degree in Fashion Merchandising. Her dedication to excellence led her to pursue a degree in Mortuary Science from Mercer County Community College, solidifying her role within the family's legacy.

Beyond her professional endeavors, Moira finds fulfillment in her personal life. She is happily married to funeral director Matthew V. Marini, forming a loving family with their cherished daughter. Moira's involvement in both the funeral service industry and local historical preservation showcases her commitment to honoring traditions and contributing to the community's well-being.

Stephen Zambito

Licensed Director
Stephen, a licensed funeral director, stands out in his field as a distinguished professional and a proud member of the National Funeral Directors Association (NFDA). His academic achievements are truly noteworthy, holding not only a Bachelor's degree but also a Master's and Doctorate degree, reflecting his commitment to continuous learning and expertise in his field.

Further adding to his accolades, Stephen has earned the esteemed distinction of being a Certified Funeral Service Practitioner by the Academy of Professional Funeral Service Practice. This designation highlights his dedication to maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and service within the funeral service industry.

Stephen's impressive educational background, coupled with his commitment to professional excellence, positions him as a valuable asset to the funeral service community. His pursuit of knowledge and recognition in the field underscores his commitment to providing exceptional and compassionate service to the families he serves.

Meghan Crosby Wisniewski

Meghan Crosby Wisniewski, a licensed funeral director, brings her compassionate expertise to her role in the funeral service industry. A graduate of Mercer County Community College, Meghan's educational background reflects her commitment to excellence in her profession.

As a member of the National Funeral Directors Association (NFDA), Meghan actively engages with her professional community, staying informed about the latest developments and best practices in the field.

In her personal life, Meghan is happily married to Corey Wisniewski, and together they nurture a loving family with two children. Meghan's dedication to both her professional responsibilities and her family life showcases her well-rounded commitment to providing support and care in various aspects of life.

Edward Simmonds

Licensed Director
Edward Simmonds, a licensed funeral director, has a foundation of expertise and compassion in his role within the funeral service profession. He earned his degree in mortuary science from Mercer County Community College in NJ, showcasing his dedication to acquiring the necessary knowledge and skills for his career.

In his personal life, Edward is happily married to Heather Simmonds, and together they form a loving and blended family. Edward embraces the responsibilities and joys of being a stepfather to a son, as well as a father to twin sons and a daughter. This commitment to family underscores Edward's values, both in his personal life and in the compassionate service he provides within the funeral service industry.

Paul Kulakis

Licensed Director
Paul, a licensed funeral director, brings his expertise and compassion to the funeral service industry. A graduate of Mercer County Community College, Paul's educational background reflects his commitment to excellence in his chosen profession.

In his personal life, Paul is happily married to Meaghan Spezzi, forming a strong and supportive partnership. Together, they nurture a loving family with three children. Paul's dedication to both his professional responsibilities and his role as a family man showcases his well-rounded commitment to providing care and support in various aspects of life.

Staff Who Are Forever In Our Hearts

Our staff members become part of our extended family. When they pass away, a piece of us goes with them. Here are a few of our beloved staff members who have gone before us.

Charles Spezzi

Father of Carmen Sr., he worked at the funeral homes doing anything from driving cars to cleaning up leaves.

Robert McGrath

Worked at the funeral homes as our resident Mr. Fix-It. If it was broken, he fixed it, if it needed re-finishing, he did it, if a light bulb needed changing he was there. He was that and so much more to us.

Edward "Wallio" Pietraszka

Worked at the funeral homes as a doortender, driver, and pallbearer. He will forever be missed by Bub, Cheech, Toots, Tootsy Pants and Tiny.

Bob Castellano

Bob was very active with the Knights of Columbus  as well as member and past president for 7 years of Saint Vincent DePaul. Bob is greatly missed by all. 

Matthew M. Winston

Matt worked for the Borough of Sayreville Parks Department and was a proud member of Sayreville Fire Department, Engine Company #1 as well as worked at the funeral homes as a doortender, driver, and pallbearer. Matty embodied the true definition of friendship and will be greatly missed.

Charles “Chip” Blazas

Chip was a retired Police Officer in Sayreville as well as worked at the funeral homes as a doortender, driver, and pallbearer. He was lovingly known as Officer Chip to all of his beloved DARE Program kids. He truly was one of a kind. He will forever be missed by all who had the honor of knowing him.
Gary "Ziggy" Balon
Gary “Ziggy” Balon was a retired JCPL employee as well as worked at the funeral homes as a doortender. He coached girls softball with the Sayreville Athletic Association in Morgan and girls basketball at OLV. He was wonderful hardworking man who will be missed by all who knew him. 

Joseph Kelly

Before his retirement Joe worked for the Borough of Sayreville Police Department for over 35 years. Mr. Kelly proudly served his country during the Vietnam War in the US Army Airborne. Joe was a member of the Sayreville Knights of Columbus Council 2061, a member of the PBA 98, he was the past Ranger Master and worked for Spezzi Funeral Home for 15 years. He took a big piece of our hearts with him when he left us.
