Peter Nelan age 75 formally of Parlin passed away Saturday December 13, 2014 at Southern Ocean Medical Center, Manahawkin. Born in Jersey City he had resided in Parlin for 40 years moving to Little Egg Harbor 7 years ago. Before his retirement 7 years ago he was employed as an electrical engineer for the United States Postal Service in Kilmer for 25 years and prior to that as a truck driver for 20 years through the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. Peter was a communicant of Saint Mary’s R. C. Church in South Amboy and a member of Sayreville Knights of Columbus Council 2061 and their 4th Degree assembly. Peter was an avid golf player spending much of his retirement on the golf courses.

He is predeceased by his grandchildren Kevin Latham and Michelle Latham, his parents Patrick and Catherine Nelan and his brother John Nelan. Surviving are his wife of 51 years Elizabeth “Betty” McNamara Nelan, his daughters and their husbands Patty & Richard Latham of Shamong and Terri & John Scanlon of Parlin, his grandchildren Christopher Scanlon, Kelsey Scanlon, Amy Latham and Melissa Posipanko and her husband Keith, and his siblings Patrick Nelan, Nora Slowinski, Mary Nelan and Cathy Pluchino.

Funeral services will be held Friday 8:45am from the Carmen F. Spezzi Funeral Home 15 Cherry Lane Parlin followed by a 9:30am mass at Saint Mary’s R. C. Church in South Amboy with entombment to follow at St Mary’s Mausoleum.

Calling hours at the funeral home will be held Thursday from 2pm to 4pm and 7pm to 9pm. Members of Sayreville Knights of Columbus Council 2061 will hold services Thursday 8pm and 4th Degree Assembly at 8:30pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations in Peter’s name be made to Saint Jude’s Children’s Hospital or New Jersey Sharing Network.
