Benjamin Nowicki age 93 of Sayreville passed away peacefully on Wednesday July 1st 2015 at his home with his devoted family at his side. Born in Northampton, Massachusetts he resided in South River before moving to Sayreville in 1951. Before his retirement in 1984 he was employed for over 43 years with Hercules Inc in Parlin where he was a pipefitter and a member of the Hercules 10 and 25 year clubs. Mr. Nowicki proudly served his country during World War II in the United State Navy serving aboard the U.S.S. Charrette DD-518 and U.S.S. Air Craft Carrier, Santee CVE-29. Ben was a life member of South River American Legion Post 214, where he was past Commander for 7 years, Senior Vice Commander for 4 years, Jr. Vice Commander for 4 years, Service Officer for 8 years, Bond Chairman for 30 years, picnic Chairman, Poppy Chairman for 32 years and Grand Marshall of the Memorial Day Parade. He was also a member South River Knights of Columbus Council 3001. Benjamin was a communicant of Saint Mary of Ostrabrama R. C. Church in South River where he was a member of the Holy Name Society. He was an avid Mets, Giants and South River Rams fan. Benjamin played football and basketball for South River High School, coached Saint Mary of Ostrabrama School Basket Ball and was a member of Sayreville Senior Citizens Tuesday Club, AARP Thursday Club and Sayreville Saint Stan’s Seniors Club

He is predeceased by his wife Ethel Neuner Nowicki in 1991, his granddaughter Cynthia Stasienko, his son in law John Stasienko in 2005,his parents Adam and Rose Nowicki and his brothers Stephan and Michael Nowicki. Surviving are his daughters Susan Gorski and her husband Michael with whom he lived and Rosemarie Stasienko of South River, his grandchildren John, Michelle, David, Michael and Brandy, his great grandchildren Brielle, David Jr. and Nate and his siblings Edward Nowicki, Stanley Nowicki and Stephanie Price all of Sayreville.

Calling hours at the funeral home will be held Sunday from 2pm to 5pm. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations in Benjamin’s name be made to Saint Mary of Ostrabrama R. C. Church Building Fund Jackson Street South River, N. J. 08882.

Funeral services will be held Monday 8am from the Carmen F. Spezzi Funeral Home 15 Cherry Lane Parlin followed by a 9am mass at Saint Mary of Ostrabrama R. C. Church in South River with burial to follow at Saint Mary’s Cemetery, East Brunswick. The following groups will hold services Sunday at the funeral home: American Legion 214 3pm, St Mary’s Holy Name Society 3:30pm, Knights of Columbus 3001 4pm.
