Obituary for Michael R Fitzgerald
Michael R. Fitzgerald, age 92 of the Parlin section of Old Bridge, passed away Monday, August 15th 2016 at The Venetian Care Center in South Amboy. Born in Dublin, Ireland he has resided in Parlin since 1958. Before his retirement 24 years ago he was employed as a Warehouse Supervisor for Fisher Scientific in Union and formerly as a Lab Supervisor for RCA in Harrison and US Metals in Carteret. Michael was a communicant of St Bernadette RC Church in Parlin where he was also a member of the St Bernadette Seniors. He was a member of the Madison Park Home Owners Association, the Old Bridge Democratic Club, he was a Soccer Referee for 33 years as well as a NJ State Referee and a member of the German American Club in Union.
He is predeceased by his parents George and Elizabeth. Surviving are his wife of 61 years the former Mary Wichowski, his children and their spouses Maura and Matthew Ferrano of Keyport, Mark and Sandy of Milford, Matthew and Carolann of Point Pleasant and Martin of Parlin, his grandchildren Matthew, Christopher, Scott, Ian, Sean, Chelsea, John and Alexander, his great-grandchildren Vanessa and Ethan, his brother Frank of Ireland and his sister Noreen Marchant of CA.
Funeral services will be held Thursday 8:45am from the Carmen F. Spezzi Funeral Home, 15 Cherry Lane, Parlin with a 9:30am Mass at St Bernadette RC Church in Parlin. Burial will follow at Chestnut Hill Cemetery in East Brunswick.
Calling hours at the funeral home will be Wednesday from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Michael’s name to St Bernadette’s Church.
