Thomas L. Kelly, age 89, of Sayreville passed away peacefully on Friday April 14, 2017, at Saint Peters University Hospital, New Brunswick with his loving and devoted family at his side. Born in South River he has resided in Sayreville since 1958. Before his retirement in 1992, Tom was employed by the Middlesex County Police Department for 33 years retiring as Chief. After his retirement he was employed by the Maliszewski and Spezzi Funeral Homes until 2012 where he worked for 19 years. Mr. Kelly proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, was a member of Sayreville VFW Memorial Post 4699 and Sayreville American Legion Post 211. Tom was very active as a life member of Sayreville Knights of Columbus Council 2061 and 4th Degree Assembly, Saint Stanislaus Kostka Holy Name Society, Sayreville St. Stan’s Seniors Club, Our Lady of Victories Senior Club, member and past president of M-CARE and Police and Firemen Local 9. A long time communicant of Our Lady of Victories R. C. Church in Sayreville, he was a church usher and collector for many years.

Tom is predeceased by his parents Edward and Wilhelmina Kelly and his brother John “Jack” Kelly. Surviving are his wife of 59 years Pearl Golaszewski Kelly, his children and their spouses George Kelly, Colleen & Mark Toth and John & Stefanie Kelly, his grandchildren William “Bill” Toth, Jeffrey Toth, Corey Platt and Brandon Platt, his great grandson Christopher Platt, his siblings Edward “Mikey” Kelly, Marie Dersoiers, Doris Toth, Kathleen Padgett, James Kelly, Eileen Sousanes, and Frank Kelly and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday 9am from the Carmen F. Spezzi Funeral Home 15 Cherry Lane Parlin, followed by a 9:30am mass at Our Lady of Victories R. C. Church in Sayreville with private cremation to follow. Burial of cremains will be held at a later time at Saint Stanislaus Kostka Cemetery, Sayreville.

Calling hours at the funeral home will be held Tuesday from 4pm to 8pm. The following groups will hold services Tuesday at the funeral home: VFW post 4699 4:30pm, American Legion Post 211 5pm, Saint Stanislaus Kostka Holy Name Society 7pm, K of C Council 2061 7:30pm, members of Sayreville K of C 4th Degree Assembly will stand honor guard from 4pm to 6pm with services at 6pm. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations in Thomas name be made to Sayreville Brain Injured Children251 Jernee Mill Road, Sayreville N.J. 08872.
