Obituary for Joao Capela
South River
Joao M. Capela, age 72 of South River, passed away Monday, May 29, 2017, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Vagos, Portugal, he has resided in South River for the past 27 years. Before his retirement, Joao worked for several years at Bed Rock Construction in Sayreville. He was a member of the Portuguese Club in South River and a former member of the Our Lady of Fatima Church committee in South River.
He is predeceased by his parents Abel and Herminia Capela, his brother Jose
and his sister Gracinda.
Surviving are his wife Maria Celeste Simoes Capela, his son Pedro and his wife
Elsa, his daughters Fernanda Pereira and her husband Tony, Paula Oliveira and
her husband Pedro, his grandchildren Nilton, Gabriela, Tiago, Anthony, Daniel,
Emily, Eric, and his siblings Armando, Cecilia and Alice.
Funeral services will be Friday 8:15am from the Maliszewski Funeral Home
218 Whitehead Ave. South River, with a 9am funeral mass to follow at Corpus
Christi RC Church in South River. Burial will take place at Washington
Monumental Cemetery in South River.
Calling hours at the funeral home will be Thursday from 5pm to 8pm.
