Obituary for Joao R Laranjeiro

Joao  R  Laranjeiro
Joao Rocha Laranjeiro, age 70 of South River passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Barra-de-Mira, Portugal he has resided in South River for the past 37 years. Before his retirement, he was employed as a construction worker for Lucas Paving in Morganville for 20 years and was formerly a commercial fisherman in Portugal for 14 years. Joao enjoyed playing cards with his friends at the Portuguese Club, was an avid soccer fan of FC Porto and loved taking a naps. Joao was funny and always whistling and smiling and so was everyone around him.

He is predeceased by his parents Manuel and Emilia Rocha Laranjeiro. Surviving are his devoted wife of 46 years, the former Maria Santos Laranjeiro, his beloved daughter Maria Margarida Laranjeiro of Monroe Township and his cherished grandchildren Antonio and Isabel Zarco.

Funeral services will be held 9:30am Saturday from the Maliszewski Funeral Home, 218 Whitehead Avenue, South River with a 10am Mass at Corpus Christi RC Church in South River. Burial will follow at Washington Monumental Cemetery in South River.

Calling hours at the funeral home will be Friday from 4pm to 8pm.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Joao’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
