Obituary for Kenneth J. Petersen

Kenneth  J.  Petersen
South River
Kenneth J. Petersen, age 86, passed away peacefully on October 26th 2017 at RWJ University Hospital in New Brunswick. He was a loving & caring husband, father, Pop-Pop and friend to all.

Ken was born in South River, where he remained a lifelong resident of the town. He was a proud lifetime member of the South River Rescue Squad and an exempt South River Fireman. Ken was employed by Bristol-Myers Squibb for 36 years before his retirement in 1997. He was the Chairman of the Board of Directors for the BMS Federal Credit Union since 1995. His fellow board members were family to him and he loved them dearly.

Ken is predeceased by his parents Nels & Evelyn Petersen, his daughter Patti, and his brothers Ralph, Ronald, Howard, Melvin and Glenn. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Barbara (Tischler) of South River, his children Kenneth Petersen, Jr. of South River, Kim Petersen and her husband Evan Zimmerman of Manhattan, Kerry McAteer and her husband Brian of Shark River Hills, his precious grandchildren Kyle & Kasey McAteer, Rachel & Alex Petersen, and Emily Zimmerman, and many loving grand-dogs.

Funeral services will be Monday 8:45am from the Maliszewski Funeral Home, 218 Whitehead Ave South River, with a 9:30am funeral mass to follow at Our Lady of Victories RC Church in Sayreville. Burial will follow at St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Sayreville.

Calling hours at the funeral home will take place Sunday from 2pm to 6pm. In lieu of flowers and to honor his lifelong dedication to volunteerism, memorial donations may be made in Ken’s name to the South River Fire Department, 28 George St, South River, NJ 08882 or the South River Rescue Squad, 6 Thomas St, South River, NJ 08882.
