More of Dad's History

Dad was the youngest of 3 children: Marie, the oldest died in her 30's from cancer, Pauline, died a few years ago and then John.

After graduating from NYU dad worked at Alexander Smith Carpet Mill where he met Mom.

Somewhere during 1956  Dad went to work for Stauffer Chemical company and we (Dad, Mom, Brian and me) moved to Painesville, Ohio (outside of Cleveland). We stayed there for 4 years.

In 1960 Dad was transferred to North Tonawanda, NY (outside of Niagara Falls). Robert and Marina were born while we lived in North Tonawanda.

In 1964 Dad was transferred to Elkton, MD, still with Stauffer. With each transfer Dad got a promotion and  moved up in the company. Dad was the plant manager of the Elkton plant.

In 1966 Dad was asked to transfer to Tennessee. He turned this down because he and Mom did not feel that they would be comfortable raising a catholic family in Baptist Tennessee during the turbulent 60's.

Dad quit his job and packed us up and we moved in with his mother in Yonkers, NY. He went to work for GAF in the Newark NJ area and made the commute every day.

In 1968 we moved to Edison NJ. He continued to work for GAF for a few years, then quit and tried to start his own employment agency. Dad also worked nights tending bar and doing short order cook work in the area around Edison. Dad went to work for Ashland Chemical sometime in/around 1973. He continued to work various night jobs to make ends meet. While living in Edison, Valerie was born.

Somewhere around 1976 Ashland transferred Dad to Ashland KY. Dad, Mom, Robert, Marina and Valerie packed up and moved to Huntington WV.

In the mid-80's Dad was transferred back to NJ where he and Mom wanted to be when they retired.

After Dad retired he worked different jobs as a consultant, some assignments lasting multiple years. Overall Dad retired at least 4 times before finally staying retired.
