Helen R. Lawnik, age 91 of South River passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at her home. Born in South River she was a lifelong borough resident. Before her retirement she was employed as a factory worker by Block Drug in South Brunswick for 11 years. Helen loved to spend her time cooking and cleaning and having Sunday dinners with her loving family.

She is predeceased by her parents Ferencz and Rose Szegeti, her husband Valentine, her siblings Frank Szegeti and Margaret Benedict and her son Thomas Lawnik and his wife Linda. Surviving are her children Val Jr. and his wife Joyce of Monroe, Cindi Smith of South River and Gregory of South River, her grandchildren Kyra and Kevin Collins, Jill Lawnik, Lindsay and Chris Davis, Katie and Scott Davis, Evan Lawnik, Lauren Smith, Haley Smith and Leslie Smith, 9 great grandchildren and her sisters Mary Dombrowski and her husband Ziggy and Dorothy Grekowski and Helen's faithful companion Shinka.

A Prayer service will be held Friday 6pm at the Maliszewski Funeral Home, 218 Whitehead Ave, South River with a private cremation to follow. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Friday from 4pm to 8pm.
