Obituary for Rosalie Rudy

Rosalie Rudy, 91, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 2, 2018. She was the wife of the late Jan Rudy. Daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Zalewski. She was born on November 29, 1926, in South River, NJ, where she was a longtime resident. Rosalie attended St. Mary’s of Ostrabrama Elementary School and South River High School. She was a faithful parishioner and an active member of St. Mary’s of Ostrabama parish and sang in the St. Cecilia’s choir and was a member of the sodality. She was very humbled when chosen to crown the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Her first employment was at E.I. Dupont & Company in Sayreville, working in the lab. She went on to work for Wronski Embroidery and Webcraft Manufacturing in North Brunswick. Her priorities were always family first so when her brother, Milton, opened a bakery in Sayreville Rosalie was happy to help.

Rosalie was willing to give of herself in many ways to her family, friends and the causes she believed in. She was a passionate pro-life activist who for many years spent her Saturday’s outside, in all kinds of weather, encouraging people to join the cause.

She loved and cherished her son, John, and enjoyed playing the role of nanny to her three nieces, Andrea, Maria, and Alyssa, whom she adored and was affectionately known as Cioci Rose. When the children were young, she delighted in taking them to Becker’s Candy Store and Ben Franklin’s 5 & 10 in South River. Summertime wouldn’t be complete without a trip to the Keansburg Amusement Park or the Garden State Arts Center. At Christmas, she made things so much fun for everyone with her special bags filled with gifts, her precious finds from local thrift shops and good will stores. She was their special Santa. Rosalie enjoyed playing the piano and she was an enthusiastic lottery player always hoping to hit the jackpot and promising to share her winnings 50/50 with her loved ones.

Rosalie was predeceased by her five brothers ; Milton , Sigismund, Michael, Stephen and Henry Zalewski. She is survived by her son, John Michael of Milltown, her sister, Terena Karr of East Brunswick, her nieces Dr. Andrea Karr and her husband Gregory Pompliano of East Brunswick, Maria Conlan and her husband Joseph of Chatham, grand nephews William and Charles Conlan, Alyssa Koletis and her husband Thomas of Jackson, grand niece Angela Koletis and grand nephew Anthony Koletis, niece Gloria Defeo of Carteret, nephew Michael Zalewski of Carteret, nieces Patricia Ambrose and Rosalie Onorati of Florida, nephew Stephen Zalewski of Dayton, nieces MaryAnn McMahon of Haddonfield, niece Michelle Cramer of Florida, and niece Debra Sekula of Sayreville.
