Obituary for Marian Georgas (Vonakis)

Marian Georgas, age 89, of the Parlin section of Sayreville, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 9, 2018 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick with her loving family at her side. Born in Rochester, PA, she started her family in Astoria, NY, moved back to PA, and finally settled in Parlin almost 50 years ago. She graduated from both Rochester High School and Robert Morris College before working as an account administrator with the Middlesex County Department of Social Services. Marian was a devout parishioner of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church where she was a member of the St. Demetrios Philoptochos Society and the St. Demetrios Senior Citizens Club. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Marian is predeceased by her beloved husband of 62 years John G. Georgas, her parents Sava & Zambica Vonakis, her dear son Sam Georgas, and her siblings Sophie Vonakis and George Vonakis. Surviving are her loving children and their spouses George & Ann Georgas of Parlin, and Sandra & Daniel Bistrimovich of Parlin; her 2 grandchildren Alyssa Marie Bistrimovich and John Michael Georgas; her daughter-in-law Lisa Georgas of Franklin Park; as well as many loving nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will take place on Saturday, 8:30am from the Carmen F. Spezzi Funeral Home, 15 Cherry Lane, Parlin with a funeral mass at 9:30am at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Perth Amboy. A burial will follow at Washington Monumental Cemetery, South River.

Calling hours at the funeral home will take place on Friday from 4pm to 8pm with Parastas scheduled at 6pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Marian’s name to St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 41-47 Wisteria Street, Perth Amboy, NJ 08861.
