Obituary for Bernard A "Bernie" Brustowicz

Bernard A "Bernie"  Brustowicz
Bernard peacefully passed away at home in South River, NJ with his family at his bedside on Sunday, September 16, 2018. He was 83 years old.

Bernie is survived by his loving wife, Geraldine, of 63 years, and his six children - Stanley, Bernard and wife Julie, Phyllis and husband John, Daniel and wife Lori, Jean and husband David and Gerhard and wife Diane, and thirteen grandchildren - Krystal, Alexa and husband James, Dakota and wife Emily, Stephen, Jessica and husband Manny, Trevor and wife Mara, Rachel and husband Matt, Ashley, Nicole, Tyler, Daniel, Garrett and Matthew. Two brothers Richard and wife Gertrude and Eugene and wife Gloria, two sisters Lorraine and Rita, half-sister Karen, brother-in-law Everett and wife Margaret, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, two brothers, and two grandsons.

Bernie was a loving and caring family man who enjoyed being with his wife, children and grandchildren. He especially enjoyed hunting with his son Stanley.

Bernie served in the U.S. Army and did a 14 month tour of duty in Korea. He worked for Anaconda Copper Works and was a former South River NJ Police Officer, former Police Chief of Washington, Kansas, also served as a Special Deputy Sheriff with Washington County, KS; was a member of PBA #62 and the Association of Police Chiefs of the State of Kansas. He enjoyed a wonderful retirement after 23 years of service with LIUNA Local #77. Bernie was a life member of the V.F.W., N.R.A., and the North American Hunting Club.

Funeral services will be Wednesday 10:00am from the Maliszewski Funeral Home 218 Whitehead Ave South River with a 10:30am Prayer Service at the Maliszewski Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Washington Monumental Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Tuesday from 5pm to 9pm. The family has requested that a donation be made in memory of Bernard A.
