Obituary for Francis Onifer

Francis Joseph Onifer, age 65, passed away in his home on Feb. 15 of natural causes. Known to many as Fran or Frank, he was born in South Amboy, NJ, and lived most of his life in Sayreville and Hazlet. He graduated Sayreville War Memorial High School in 1968 and entered the U.S. Navy reserves while enrolling in Lincoln Technical Institute. He entered active duty in 1969 and was stationed in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and was discharged in 1974. Fran received an Associate’s degree from Middlesex College and spent his career working as a heating and air conditioning technician. Frank was also a communicant of St. Bernadette’s RC Church in Parlin.

Frank is predeceased by his parents, Paul and Agnes Onifer. He is survived by: his children, Dr. Dana Onifer and his wife Jewell of Jacksonville, NC, Kimberly Ortiz of Royersford, PA, Michael Onifer and his wife Asha of Jacksonville, NC, and Matthew Onifer and his wife Barbara of Brick, NJ; his grandchildren, Taylor, Joseph, Matthew, and Abner; his siblings, William Onifer, Gloria Jean (Sanford Carr) Erickson, Nancy Wojcik, Martin Onifer, and Anthony Onifer; his maternal aunt Ellen Keating; 16 nieces and nephews, and 12 great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday 8:45am from the Maliszewski Memorial Home, 121 Main Street, Sayreville with a 9:30am Mass at St Bernadette RC Church, 20 Villanova Rd., Parlin.
